Blue Ribbon Run 5K: September 19 Run or walk in this fun event to celebrate survivors as well as remember those who fought prostate cancer during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Proceeds benefit the Us TOO Foundation, a nonprofit established in 1990 that serves as a resource of volunteers with peer-to-peer support and educational materials to help men and their families/caregivers make informed decisions about prostate cancer detection, treatment options and related side effects. The flat course is perfect for those who are serious competitors, families or walkers. The course will both start and finish at the Cherry Bend Community Park located on Cherry Bend Road in Elmwood Twsp. There will be one 5K route (equivalent to 3.1 miles) which will take participants through local neighborhoods, the TART Trail and Cedar Creek Senior Apartments. Mt. Holiday's Great Pumpkin Dash: Oct 17 Are your family and friends sick of waiting for you at the finish line? It's time they joined in the fun! On Saturday, Oct. 17, join us at Mt. Holiday's Great Pumpkin Dash, sponsored in part by Meijer. It's a competitive, timed 5K trail run that's followed by an untimed family friendly 2K pumpkin lug. The 5K Jack-o-lope is a traditional 5K race, tackling the woods and hills of Mt. Holiday. The 2K Pumpkin Lug is for families, singles, and kids. Costumes are highly encouraged!! Participants pick a pumpkin from our patch and proceed to "lug" it around a 4-station obstacle course. You can do this as a single racer or as a four-person relay. Kids decorate their pumpkins afterward. There will be cider and donut holes for the finishers. Prizes for best costumes, heaviest pumpkin lugged, etc. will be awarded. Traverse City Zombie Run: October 31 Join us for the seventh annual Traverse City Zombie Run on Halloween October 31, 2015. The Zombie Run has become a Traverse City Halloween tradition. What's not to like? Zombies and beer have always been a winning combination. Over the years we have seen zombies from all walks of life, or should I say death. There have been Elvis zombies,Village People zombies, and even zombie Girl Scouts. Who will show up this year? The only thing we never saw was someone not having a good time! The Great Beerd Run 5K: November 14 Join us at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa for our second Great Beerd Run- a 5k fun run designed to celebrate all things Beer and Beard. This is an untimed run with on course beer tastings provided by Beards Brewery, Short's Brewery and Right Brain Brewery. There will also be a post-race Beer Tent featuring a Best Beard Contest, race grub, music, and beer. The Best Beard contest will feature prizes for both the best "Natural" and "Assisted" beard.
