Good Fight Virtual 5K

Traverse City Track Club’s Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run Converts to Virtual-Only in 2020

Traverse City Track Club’s long standing cancer-related fundraiser running/walking event, the Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run, has converted to a virtual event.

This year’s event won’t be an in-person gathering, but will still call on participants of all ages and abilities to join the “fight” from wherever they are — on every sidewalk, track and trail, or indoors.

The in-person experience originally scheduled for October 4th, 2020 is being cancelled in the interest of public health due to the coronavirus.

“Over the past several months, we have been monitoring developments in the event industry, and tracking the views and guidelines of local, state and national authorities, medical advisors, volunteers, participants and community partners as we navigate all of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, and this led to our ultimate decision,” said Lisa Taylor, executive director of Traverse City Track Club.

“Going virtual will enable us to remain fully committed to our mission of encouraging health, fitness, community service, and family recreation, and competition through running/walking events and programs and will continue to work as hard as ever toward that purpose.” Taylor added

Since 1994, participant entry fees and the various partner and sponsor relationships and activities have enabled the Traverse City Track Club to donate on their behalf over $250,000 to the Munson Healthcare Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund.

The Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund provides direct financial support for expenses not covered by insurance for those undergoing cancer treatments. Examples of support include gas cards, funds to pay utility bills, childcare, and rent for those fighting cancer.

The virtual experience allows participants to complete a 5K while observing social distancing. Participants register, receive a race package in the mail, run the prescribed distance at the location/course of their choice and submit their results online. The entry fee includes a finisher souvenir, bib, and the commemorative runner giveaway/swag.

The Good Fight 5K virtual event will open for registration August 18 at $35 through October 2. Once registered, participants will be able to complete their virtual 5K any day/time/place between October 4th through October 16th, 2020. Instructions will be sent closer to the event.

This event is presented in partnership with Hagerty of Traverse City, which has been a long-time partner in the event.

While a significant portion event profit is annually donated by TCTC to the Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund, participants can help raise additional funds by choosing to add a gift amount to their entry fee during the registration process.

All registrants will receive a custom bammie (multi-use head-wear).
